Photo Requirements
One of the most asked questions is “How small of a print or file can
I submit and how large of a canvas can I order?” And that’s a
good question! Obviously a photo can only be enlarged so much without affecting
the quality of the final canvas print. Below is a basic guideline for you
to go by. Rest assured, if the photo size that you submit is too small for
the canvas size that you are requesting one of our studio technicians will
personally contact you (by email or phone) and recommend a more appropriate
size.
How large of a print we can make depends on the quality of your print, size
of your file and the quality of the camera that took the photo.
Digital Files:
If you are taking your own photo, be sure to set your camera at the highest quality
setting. The larger the file size the larger the print. It’s really that
simple. If you manipulate your photo with a photo editing program be sure to
save it as a jpeg or tiff with no compression. Do not enlarge or increase the
resolution in an imaging program to get a larger file size.
Following is a basic guide for resolution from digital to canvas print size:
Resolution: 900x1200px file size = 12x16in print size / 1200x1600px file size = 16x20in print size / 1800x2600px file size = 24x36in print size
Traditional Prints:
If you will be mailing a print for reproduction to Masterpiece Canvas Studio,
the larger the print the larger the finished canvas can be. As a rule of thumb
we can enlarge a traditional photo approximately four times its size. The largest
photo that we can accept for enlargement is 8 ½ x 11. Again the quality
of the camera that took the original photo and the quality of the existing photo
will have an effect on the finished canvas. Please do not scan your own photo
for submission. The quality of your scanner can also affect the quality of the
finished canvas. Our technicians at Masterpiece Canvas Studio will be happy to
scan it for you. Additional imaging enhancement may be necessary with a traditional
print. Your original print will be returned with your finished canvas.
Following is a basic guide for traditional print to print canvas size:
Print Size: 5x7 / 8x10
Canvas Size: 20x28 / 32x40
We cannot print any photo saved from the web. You must be the owner of the photo
or have a copyright release from the professional photographer for reproduction.
